HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — With a lot of the team playing both volleyball and soccer, practice time is at a premium.
But the St. Joseph Lady Flyers had three volleyball games this past week and the extra work helped even though it didn’t translate into wins.
The Lady Flyers continued to show improved play but lost in five sets to the Huntington St. Joe Lady Fighting Irish on Friday, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25 and 6-15 in the tiebreaker.
“I told the girls that playing back-to-back has actually helped us this week,” said Lady Flyers’ assistant coach Rachel Harries.
“Our playing really improved each night. It’s tough we couldn’t pull out a win, but they always give their best effort and that’s all you can ask.”
Chloe Sheridan had a huge game as she got 21 assists and 17 digs to go with one ace, five kills and one block assist.
“Even though this is Chloe’s first time setting, she does a fantastic job of making the ball better,” said Harries. “We don’t expect perfect passes or digs every play, but she always seems to make them better.”
Faith Mahlmeister was “killing it” as she racked up 14 kills and also had two aces and four digs. Jadyn Green put together a stellar all-around game with two aces, eight kills, one block assist, two assists and 16 digs.
Other top statistic results for the Lady Flyers:
Emma Whaley seven digs; Jade DeGiorgio one ace and 12 digs; Gracie Damron two aces, six kills, two assists, three digs and one block assist; Bella Whaley one ace, three kills and eight digs; and Emilee Blankenship one kills and one block assist.
The Lady Flyers travel to Symmes Valley on Monday for 6 p.m. Division IV sectional tournament game.
