Ironton HOF banquet schedule for Nov. 2
The Ironton High School Athletic Hall of Fame will have its induction dinner on Saturday, Nov. 2, in the high school cafeteria.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $10 for individuals and can be purchased at the door.
This year’s induction class consists of Phil Murnahan, Walt Delong, Beth Rist, Mike Smith and late head football coach Charlton “Shorty” Davies.
New members will be introduced at the Nov. 1 game vs. Portsmouth.
Hughes basketball camp
sessions begin Nov. 3
Former highly-successful Green, South Point and Wheelersburg boys’ high school basketball coach Mike Hughes is offering basketball instruction for boys in grades 5-6.
There will be six sessions at two hours each with a maximum of 10 per group. The sessions will be held at the gym complex at the residence of Gage Hughes in Ohio Furnace on the border of Lawrence and Scioto counties.
Camp is from 6-8 p.m. on Nov. 10, 11, 14, 17, 21 and 24. Registration is Sunday, Nov. 3. There will be a parent meeting and player evaluation.
Hughes will be assisted by former Greenup County basketball standout Gage Hughes who is the school’s all-time leading scorer. Gage was drafted by the Kansas City Royals baseball team and he will also offer baseball instructions before or after the basketball sessions free of charge.

Chesy Buddy Basketball sets final registrations
The Chesapeake Buddy Basketball League will conduct final registrations from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the Chesapeake Middle School cafeteria.
Parents or guardians should bring a birth certificate when registering. Ages are 5-13 and fees are $25 for one child, $40 for two, and $50 for three or more.

Fairland girls’ basketball academy begins Nov. 1
The Fairland Girls’ Basketball Academy for grades 1-6 will begin on Friday, Nov. 1.
The league is open to anyone in the Tri-State. Interested girls must attend one of two evaluation sessions. One is from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Fairland Middle School and the second 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Fairland West Elementary.

Reds restructure team’s hitting department
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams today announced the hiring of Alan Zinter as hitting coach for the Major League team and the promotion of Donnie Ecker to assistant hitting coach and director of hitting.
Zinter and Ecker will work closely together to provide support for the Major League team. In addition, in his new role Ecker will have increased involvement in the creation and implementation of the organization’s hitting philosophies and protocols.
