Hughes bounces back big to lead Lady Trojans rally past Redwomen

PEDRO — Not this time.
After being held to just one point on Monday, Hannah Hughes scored 19 points as the Portsmouth Lady Trojans beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 37-30 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Lucy Simpson had 6 points and Rileigh Morris and Aleigha Matney 5 each to pace Rock Hill (2-4, 0-4).
Jaiden Rickett hit a pair of 3-pointers as she got 6 of her 9 points in the first quarter and Portsmouth led 9-7. Matney had 3 for Rock Hill.
Morris hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and Cigi Pancak also hit a trey as Rock Hill rallied to take a 19-17 lead at the half. Hughes had 6 points in the quarter for Portsmouth (3-3, 1-3).
The decisive third quarter saw Rock Hill fail to score while Nia Trinidad hit a couple of trifectas and Hughes had 4 more points and the Lady Trojans were up 27-19.
Hughes drained a triple and scored 6 points in the fourth quarter and Rickett went 2-for-2 at the foul line. Simpson had 4 points and Savannah Cade 3 for the Redwomen.
Rock Hill goes to South Point on Monday while Portsmouth host Whiteoak on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
