OAK HILL — This was not the way Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach wanted to end what had been a good week.
Coming off wins over Ironton and South Point, Roach was hoping to continue the streak against the Oak Hill Lady Oaks.
Didn’t happen.
The Lady Hornets shot 17-of-51 from the field for 33 percent and lost to the Lady Oaks and Caitlyn Brisker 67-56 on Saturday.
“We had two tough league games last week and Oak Hill came out with more enthusiasm and aggression from the beginning,” said Roach.
Brisker scored 32 points as she hit on 12-of-28 field goal attempts. Chloe Chambers score 12 points, Olivia Clarkson 11 and Brooke Howards 10 for the Lady Oaks (6-5).
Addi Dillow had a huge game for Coal Grove as the junior guard hit 9-of-22 shots and scored 31 points including 10-of-16 at the foul line.
Brisker, Chambers and Clarkson combined for all of Oak Hill’s point as they took a 16-14 lead. Dillow had 9 for the Lady Hornets.
Dillow hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the second quarter as Coal Grove got within 30-29 at the half. Brisker had 8 for Oak Hill.
The third quarter was the difference as Oak Hill outscored Coal Grove 21-8 to lead 51-37. Brisker hit two more triples and scored 15 points.
Dillow had 8 points and Caitlin Dillon hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points for Coal Grove, but Chambers had 8 points and Howard 6.
“I was not happy with our team’s attitude and effort for the majority of the game. We got down 20 at the beginning of the fourth, we made a little run but it was too late,” said Roach.
Coal Grove hosts Nelsonville-York on Monday.
