Whitt scores 1,000th point in Lady Pointers 46-31 win

SOUTH POINT — It seemed everybody got what they wanted.
Emilee Whitt got her milestone, Emilee Carey got her shooting eye, and the South Point Lady Pointers got a 46-31 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.
Whitt hit the first basket of the game to give her 1,000 career points. Whitt needed just 2 points to reach the milestone and she finished the game with 16.
Carey had a season-high 25 points that including 5-of-5 form 2-point range and 5-of-12 from the 3-point arc as South Point improved to 5-5 and 4-3 in the league.
“It was a big night for Emilee Whitt getting her 1000th point and it was a big conference win for us,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
“Emilee Carey got hot and scored 25 tonight. There were a lot of positives in a much-needed win.”
After Whitt scored the first basket of the game, Carey scored 15 points in the first quarter as South Point jumped in front 18-8.
Emily Duncan scored all 4 of her points in the quarter for the Lady Panthers (5-6, 3-4).
Each team scored 7 points in the second quarter and it was 25-15 at the half.
The third quarter was also most a carbon copy of the second quarter as each team only managed 6 points and the Lady Pointers were up 31-21.
Things picked up in the fourth quarter as Whitt scored 8 points including a 3-pointer and Carey also hit a trey and scored 5 points as South Point outscored the Lady Pointers 15-10.
Blake Anderson scored 8 of Chesapeake’s 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Anderson finished the game with 14 points and Maddie Ward added 9.
On Thursday, South Point is at Portsmouth and Chesapeake goes to Rock Hill.
