Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities (HCHC) will host its quarterly luncheon for faith leaders at noon Friday, Jan. 17 at Kings Daughters Medical Center. Mike Greider will be the keynote speaker at the free event and his presentation will be “Understanding the Role of Your Faith Community in the Recovery Process.”
Grieder is director of Mission Tri-State. He is also a chaplain and a certified drug and alcohol counselor for Addiction Recovery Care. Greider’s discussion will focus on understanding the nature of addiction, the role of faith communities in the recovery process, and the practical ways faith communities can support those impacted by addiction. Lunch will precede the program, and will include time for those gathered to network, pray and discuss their own experiences. HCHC’s quarterly luncheons are meant to create a space for faith community leaders to gather, learn more about addiction and collaborate on practical strategies for helping support the community.
“Our faith communities are on the front lines of the addiction crisis, and have an important role to play in the healing and recovery of our families and communities,” Joseph Mazzawi, coordinator of HCHC says. “While the program is specifically oriented toward leaders within the faith communities, all are welcome to attend and educate themselves to better address this epidemic.” Those interested in participating are asked to rsvp emailing scott.hill@kdmc.kdhs.us or Careline@bshsi.org.
