SOUTH POINT — One thing is certain about basketball: you have to make shots.
Chesapeake made their shots and South Point was up and down with their shooting which resulted in the Panthers posting a 64-54 Ohio Valley Conference win on Tuesday.
One key area of shooting was at the foul line where the Panthers converted 11-of-19 free throw and the Pointers made only 4-of-13.
“We just couldn’t make a free throw and we left a lot of points on the floor,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “But Chesapeake is good. They are quick and they can shoot, and they made their free throws.”
Chesapeake (11-1, 6-1) was led by Levi Blankenship with 21 points. Josh Cox scored 14 and Trent Dearth had 12.
Austin Webb scored a game-high 25 points to pace South Point (5-6, 4-3). Mason Kazee added 11 points.
Blankenship hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to get the Panthers going as they took a 20-15 lead. Webb scored 9 points for the Pointers.
Webb scored 6 points in the second quarter as the Pointers cut the deficit to 29-27 at the half.
