Pointers use fast start race past West Union

SEAMAN — Vroom, vroom.
The South Point Pointers had their engine ready to run from the starting line and kept motoring as they ran over the West Union Dragons 66-40 at the Dave Young Classic on Saturday.
The Pointers (7-6) built a 9-point lead in the first half and then floored it in the third quarter by pulling away to a 25-point lead.
“We started off well and got a nice lead and then we kept the foot on the gas,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
Austin Webb scored 21 points and Nakyan Turner scored 15 to lead the Pointers who had 11 players reach the scoring column.
West Union (4-7) was led by Zane Kingsolver with 17 points and Cameron Campbell 11 points.
Webb scored 8 points as South Point took a 12-5 first quarter lead.
Turner had 5 points and Mason Kazee hit a 3-pointer as six different players scored and the lead was 25-16 at the half.
Webb had 7 points, Turner 5 points, Brody Blackwell 4 points and Chance Gunther hit a 3-pointer as South Point surged ahead 50-25 after three quarters.
South Point emptied the bench in the fourth quarter and outscored West Union 17-15.
Kingsolver had 11 points in the quarter for the Dragons including 7-of-10 from the line.
