HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The South Point Pointers’ inside/outside tandem were over the top.
Junior center Austin Webb scored 31 points and senior guard Chance Gunther had 22 points as the Pointers rolled past the Huntington St. Joseph Irish 86-53 on Wednesday.
Brody Blackwell hit three 3-pointers for 9 points and had 6 rebounds while Darryl Taylor grabbed 8 rebounds for the Pointers (8-7).
Gunther had 4 assists, Taylor 3 assists, and Webb and Kyle Badgett 3 steals each.
Gunnel Hickman scored 14 and Jaylen Motley 10 for the Irish (7-5).
Webb hit a 3-pointer and scored 6 points, Gunther scored 4 and Blackwell hit a 3-pointer as South Point took a 15-12 first quarter lead.
Hickman had 6 points in the quarter for the Irish.
Webb and Gunther turned up the volume in the second quarter as they combined for 27 of South Point’s 29 points to take a 44-23 halftime cushion.
Webb had a 3-pointer and a free throw as he scored 14 points while Gunther drained four 3-pointers and scored 13 points.
Motley got 6 points for Huntington St. Joe.
Webb scored 11 points, Blackwell hit two more 3-pointers and Gunther had 5 points including a 3-pointer as the Pointers scored 27 points in the third quarter and the lead ballooned to 71-34.
The Pointers turned to their bench in the fourth quarter and Kyle Badgett scored 6 points and Carmelo Sammons had 5 points.
On Friday, South Point goes to Gallipolis for an Ohio Valley Conference game.
