GALLIPOLIS — Being short-handed left the Rock Hill Redwomen short on points.
Missing three players due to flu or injury, the Redwomen lost 57-36 to the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Lucy Simpson scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Redwomen. MaKayla Scott had 7 assists and Savannah Cade got 6 points and 4 rebounds.
Gallipolis relied on the duo of Maddy Petro and Alex Barnes. Petro had 22 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals while Barnes got 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Koren Truance added 11 points.
Gallipolis (8-14, 2-12) grabbed a 17-8 first quarter lead as Barnes scored 9 points and Petro 6.
Aleigha Matney scored 4 points for Rock Hill (6-16, 2-12).
Barnes had 7 more points and Truance hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points as the lead grew to 33-17 at the half. MaKenzie Hanshaw had 4 points for Rock Hill.
The Blue Angels extended the lead to 45-27 as Petro and Truance scored 4 points each. Simpson had 6 of Rock Hill’s 10 points.
Gallipolis continued to pull away as Petro scored 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Savannah Cade had 4 points and Keilie Adams hit a 3-pointer for Rock Hill in the quarter.
UP NEXT: Rock Hill plays Nelsonville-York at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday at Jackson High School in the sectional tournament.
