CHESAPEAKE — One was enough.
The Chesapeake Panthers struggled offensively in three of the four quarters, but it was that one quarter that proved to be the difference as they beat the South Point Pointers 57-35 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Chesapeake turned a one-point deficit into a 16-point lead by outscoring South Point 24-7 in the second quarter.
Chance Gunther, Kyle Badgett and Mason Kazee all hit 3-pointers as South Point took a 10-9 first quarter lead. Four different players scored for the Panthers.
But Chesapeake took control in the second quarter as Dilen Caldwell hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Levi Blankenship scored 8 points and the Panthers converted 8-of-10 from the foul line.
Brody Blackwell hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points for the Pointers.
Neither team had much offense in the third quarter as Chesapeake extended its lead to 42-23.
Travis Grim scored 5 of the Panthers 9 points in the quarter while Nakyan Turner went 4-for-4 at the foul line for the Pointers.
In the fourth quarter, Blankenship hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points, Dearth had 4 points and Taylor hit another 3-pointer as Chesapeake outscored South Point 15-12.
Turner was 4-for-4 at the line again while Gunther and Blackwell each hit triples for South Point.
Chesapeake (19-3, 12-2) had a balanced offense led by Blankenship with 13 points. Grim, Caldwell and Austin Jackson had 8 points each.
