Man killed in crash: First traffic fatality of 2020

Lawrence County had its first traffic fatality of the year after a man was killed on Thursday evening after his car went off the roadway by Fruth Pharmacy on U.S. 52 in Ironton.

The Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the single-car crash that occurred at 5:47 p.m. on U.S. 52 at State Route 141.

The OSHP said Brian A. Prater, 56, of McArthur, was traveling west on U.S. 52 in a 2001 silver Hyundai Elantra and took the exit ramp to State Route 141. He continued through the intersection, traveled off the roadway and the car struck a curb and overturned.

Prater was killed in the crash.

The OSHP is still investigating the accident and haven’t determined a cause of the crash yet.
