Kathy Hamra

Sept. 25, 1946– March 7, 2020

 

Kathy Len Hamra, 73, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, at King’s Daughter Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

The Chelyan, West Virginia native was born Sept. 25, 1946 to the late Fred and Helen (Wagner) Hamra.

Kathy graduated from Russell High School after attending Ironton schools until her senior year and was a manager for the Sherwin Williams Paint Store in Ironton for many years.

She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Ironton, and very involved in many activities at the church.

She enjoyed decorating and spending time with her family and friends, especially Alix and Ava.

She is survived by a sister, Lenda (John) Burns, of Huntington, West Virginia; a nephew, Micheal (Angie) Miller, of Chesapeake; a great-nephew, Alix Miller, of Chesapeake; and a great-niece, Ava Miller, of Chesapeake. Others left to mourn her passing include a special friend, Charles Brickles; her cat, Bratley; niece, Barbie (Hobie) Smith; and many church family and many close friends and family.

There will be a memorial service held at 6 p.m. Friday at Sharon Baptist Church, 2010 S. Fifth St., Ironton, with Pastor Steve Harvey officiating. Phillips Funeral Home, of Ironton, is honored to be helping the family with the arrangements.

Charles Belcher

March 1, 1937–Feb. 27, 2020

 

Charles “Charlie” Belcher, 82, of South Point, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at a local health care facility.

The Lawrence County native was born March 1, 1937, the son of the late Earl and Evelyn (Miller) Belcher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rowena Susan (Kazee) Belcher, who passed away Sept. 16, 2009.

Charlie attended South Point High School, where he was an OVC All-Conference basketball player and was a phenomenal baseball and football player.

Charlie was a veteran of the United States Navy, achieving the rank of PT2 Photo Intelligence 2nd Class.

He was self-employed, of the Baptist faith and enjoyed being in the woods, coon hunting.

He is survived by a brother, Shelby Belcher, of South Point; a sister, Sue Belcher, of South Point; and two nephews, Seth and Luke Belcher, both of Covington, Kentucky.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St., Ironton. There will be no procession from the funeral home, if you would like to attend the service, please meet the family in section L of the cemetery.

George Webb

July 31, 1930–March 10, 2020

 

George Ervin Webb, 89, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Harbor Health Care, Ironton.

He was born July 31, 1930 to the late William Ervin Webb and Lettie (Carpenter) Webb Myers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Runyon) Webb; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Janet Webb; and son-in-law, Tony Gore.

George was a 1948 graduate of Ironton High School, after graduating high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

George was a retired produce clerk for Kroger and will always be remembered as a devoted family man and the love he had for his church.

He served as a teacher, trustee and clerk at Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church, then served as teacher and deacon for many years at Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he is currently a member.

He was also a Cub Master for Pack #110 and loved taking nature walks and reading.

Those left to cherish his memory is a daughter, Janet Gore, of Coal Grove; two sons, Sam (Juanita) Webb, of Hurricane, West Virginia, and Paul Webb, of Ironton; a granddaughter, Jamie (Ron) Coleman, of Ona, West Virginia; a grandson, AJ (Amy) Webb, of Cincinnati; two step-granddaughters, Amanda (John) Gillenwater, of Ironton, and Tessa Gore, of Geenup, Kentucky; two step-grandsons, Travis (Jenna) Townsend, of Culloden, West Virginia, Adam (Rachel) Townsend, of Hurricane, West Virginia, and their two children, Noah and Lili; nephews, Patrick (Lee Ann) Kaiser, Steve Nutter; nieces, Diana (Steven) Rivet and Tracey (Kerry) Storey; and very special great-nephew and nieces, Tyler, Isabelle and Emilee.

The family would like to recognize the fine care and attention from Harbor Health Care and his roommates, Richard and Kenneth.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastors Mike Long and Billy Markins officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St., Ironton, where VFW Post #8850 will provide military graveside rites. Visitation will be 5–8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mabel Brooks

Mabel Brooks, 97, of South Point, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.

James Graybeal

James Robert Graybeal, 67, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Graybeal.

He was the owner of Huntington Garage Door Company.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia. Visitation will be held 6–8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
