Gloria Cochran

Oct. 4, 1941–March 13, 2020

Gloria Cochran, 78, of Ironton, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, at her residence with her family. The Ironton native was born October 4, 1941, the daughter of the late Donniver Goody and Beatrice Kelley Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Cochran Jr., who passed away April 15, 2016.

Gloria attended Dawson Bryant High School and was a homemaker. She also attended Royersville Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton. She loved reading her Bible, doing crossword puzzles and coloring. She loved going on vacations with her family in the Smoky Mountains. She loved outdoors, swinging on her porch swing, enjoying family, gardening and planting beautiful flowers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Patrick; great-grandson, Lucas Patrick; sister-in-law, Sue Goody; sister, Wilma Willis Lyall; and a special friend, Alma Gay Maynard.

She is survived by, three sons, Gary Cochran, Bob Cochran, and Brent (Valerie) Cochran, all of Ironton; two daughters, Twyla Patrick, of Kitts Hill and Selena (Rick) McKnight, of Ironton; two brothers, Jerry “Bill” Goody, of Ironton, and Kenny Plakaros, of Columbus; a sister, Kendra (Troy) Farmer, of Franklin Furnace; an uncle, Earl Kelley, of Willow Wood; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday, at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Gillette officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6–8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles McCoy

Charles E. “Buzz” McCoy, 88, of Crown City, died Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Arbors at Gallipolis.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service was 3:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens, Miller, with Pastor Donnie Carter officiating. Proctorville VFW Post 6878 conducted military graveside rites. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.

Lou Fortune

Lou Ann Fortune, 55, of South Point, died Friday, March 13, 2020.

There will be no services. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anna Maynard

Anna Lou Maynard, 77, of Crown City, died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at home. She is survived by her husband, Willis “Shorty” Maynard.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Church, Crown City, with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Creek Cemetery, Crown City. Visitation will be held 6–8 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

Albert Bonzo

Oct. 30, 1921–March 13, 2020

Albert J. Bonzo, 98, of Ironton, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born Oct. 30, 1921, to the late James and Ethel (Frazier) Bonzo and also preceded in death by his wife, Rosella (Riddlebarger) Bonzo, on Feb. 2, 2017, after 70 years of marriage.

Albert was a graduate of Green Township schools and was a proud Army veteran, serving his country with honor and distinction in WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the American Theater. After his time in the service, he purchased a dairy truck and was the dairyman for much of the area. Albert continued farming his land and was a member of the Farm Bureau. In later years, he enjoyed grooming his lawn and loving the time he was able to spend with his family. He was a longtime member of the Ohio Furnace Enterprise Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Keith Bonzo; two brothers, Ralph Bonzo and Russell Bonzo; and two sisters, Nella Mae (Bonzo) Little and Bernice (Bonzo) Lewis.

Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Randall (Linda) Bonzo, of Portage, Michigan; a daughter, Shawna Bowen, of Ironton; five granddaughters, Melissa (Sean) Frazee, of Pedro, Jessica (Ron) Miller, of Wheelersburg; Kayla Bonzo, of Columbus; Sarah (Nate) Rose Bonzo-Tuinier, and Rebecca (Karl) Bingham, of Hinckley, Illinois; two grandsons, Keith (Amanda) Gonzalez Bonzo, of Charlottesville, Virginia and John Michael Bowen, of Ironton; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Calvin Ray Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace, with VFW Post #8850 providing military graveside rites. The family will welcome friends for a visitation from 6–8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
