Arnold Shope

Sept. 9, 1947– March, 31, 2020

 

On March, 31, 2020, Arnold passed away at the age of 72, at home in Honolulu, Hawaii after an extended illness.

 

Arnold was born Sept. 9, 1947, in Ironton, to the late Elmer J. Shope and Audrey (Sisler) Daniels.

Arnold was self-employed as the owner of Shope’s Inc. and ACS Contractors. He was a member of the Operating Engineers of Columbus.

 

Arnold love spending time with family, fishing, taking drives and reminiscing about old times.

 

Arnold was preceded in death by his father. Elmer; his mother, Audrey; a father-in-law, Tom Marshall; a sister-in-law, Vicky (Wayne) Smith; and a brother-in-law, Gregory Scott.

 

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cheryl (Marshall); his brothers, Charles (Rachel) Shope, of Marysville; Michael Daniels, of Ironton; his sister, Debbie Daniels (Gregory) Scott, of Ashland, Kentucky; his mother-in-law, Ruth Marshall; and his brother-in-law, Tom (Adele) Marshall.

 

Arnold was the proud father of four children who also survive, his beloved daughter, Sheri (Bill) Wells of Marysville; and sons, Steve Shope, of Delaware, Doug Shope, of Bellefontaine, and Arnold “AJ” (Cassie) Shope of Chesterfield, Missouri.

 

Arnold treasured his nine grandchildren and much anticipated the birth of his first great-grandson.

 

Arnold also had many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

 

Arnold’s wit, charm, hugs and birthday singing calls will be sadly missed by all.

 

No services will be held at Arnold’s request.

 

 

Jeffery Penwell

July 15, 1958–May 21, 2020

 

Jeffery “Jeff” Allen Penwell, 61, of Pedro, formerly of Washington Court House, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

 

He was born July 15, 1958 in Fayette County; a son to the late Fred Penwell and Mary Lou (Stookey) Crouch.

 

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nina Genny (Hackworth) Penwell, whom he married July 24, 1982.

 

Jeff was a 1976 graduate of Ironton High School and a United States Army veteran. He was a laborer for the Local #83.

 

Jeff enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, doing puzzles and working in the yard.

 

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Penwell and Freddie Penwell; and father and mother-in-law, Lee Roy and Madolyn Jean (Boggs) Hackworth.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeremy Penwell and Zachary Penwell, both of Pedro; a daughter, Kayla (Chris Ball) Penwell, of Ironton; five grandchildren, Karsyn Ball, Madison Penwell, Colyn Ball, Krissa Ball, and Presley Penwell; brother, Steven Penwell; sister, Barbara Schiller; as well as many nieces and nephews; special friend, Roy Murrell; and two nurses from Heartland, Ashley and Jena.

 

A private funeral service will be held at a later date.

 

Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Casey Kerns

Dec. 30, 1975–May 20, 2020

 

Casey Eugene Kerns, 44, of Chesapeake, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at his residence.

 

The Pedro native was born Dec. 30, 1975, the son of the late Ronald Eugene Kerns and Debra DePriest, of Pedro.

 

Casey was a 1994 graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was an avid businessman and a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Union #669. He enjoyed taking flight lessons at the Lawrence County Airpark, scuba diving and spending time with his family.

 

Anyone he crossed paths with became a friend. He had the most forgiving, selfless heart and anyone who knew him would never be without a helping hand.

 

He loved his girls dearly and would do anything for them. They were his world.

 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Frank Eugene Kerns; maternal grandfather, Clarence Ellis DePriest; and an aunt, Clara Williams

 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Kierra (Robert) McDaniel, Alexis Kerns and Olivia Kerns, all of Chesapeake; mother of his children, Courtney Kerns; a brother, Mitchell (Krissye) Kerns; a sister, Jenny Lind (Boyd Blake) Kerns, of Ironton; maternal grandmother, Linda DePriest; paternal grandmother, Virginia Kerns; nephews, Jaden, Ethan, Landon, Boyd and Casey; nieces, Keely, Macy, Josey, Haley and Maddi; great-nephew, Kason; favorite companion and man’s best friend, Vinny; and many other cousins, family and friends.

 

He was always up for a good time and will be missed greatly.

 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastor Tom Jones and Pastor Thomas Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5–8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Claude Adkins

 

Claude Adkins, 76, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Thursday, May 21, 2020, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia.

 

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Adkins.

 

Funeral service will be conducted 7 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with Bishop E.S. Harper officiating. Visitation will be held 5–7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

Private family burial will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia.

Clifford Wilson III

 

Clifford “Buddy” Wilson III died on May 20, 2020.

There will be no public service at this time, but a celebration of Buddy’s remarkable life will take place in the future, at a date and time to be determined.

Kenneth Lee Lisath, 71, of Ironton, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Howard Lisath.

Funeral service will be noon Wednesday at the New Jerusalem Christian Center, where he was pastor. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Kenneth Straight

 

Kenneth Lee Straight, 63, of South Point, died Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at the Community Hospice Center, Ashland, KY. He is survived by his wife, Heather (Bacon) Straight.

A funeral service will be noon Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor John Paul Patterson officiating. VFW Post #8850 will be providing military rites immediately following the funeral service. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
