Jerry Sweeney

May 27, 1935–May 26, 2020

Jerry Sweeney, 84, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Ironton, passed away, May 26, 2020, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Florida.

The Ironton native was born May 27, 1935, the son of the late William D. and Helen R. Jaynes Sweeney.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Betty McGuire Sweeney, whom he married, June 13, 1953.

Mr. Sweeney, attended Ironton High School, he was a member of the National Guard in Ironton. He was an active member of The Knights of Columbus and a Grand Knight, of which he was very proud of. He also proudly served as a deputy sheriff for Lawrence County Sheriff Office.

He and Betty owned and operated Sweeney’s Home Furnishings in Ironton, before retiring to Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Kay Griswold and LaVay Nunley.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Luann Sweeney, of Leesburg, Florida, Lisa Nichols, of Jacksonville, Florida, Jerry D. Jay (Becky) Sweeney, of Leesburg, Florida, Jeremy (Diana) Sweeney, of Leesburg, Florida, and Israel Sweeney, of Leesburg, Florida; two brothers, William Sweeney of Ironton, and Harley “Mike” (Bonnie) Sweeney, of Missouri; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

 

 

Edward Bowling

Edward Lee Bowling, 80, of Proctorville, died on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Lanter Bowling.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, West Virginia.

Billy Scarberry

Billy Scarberry, 50, of Huntington, West Virginia, died on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Scarberry.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Visitation will be held 6–8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.

Alfred Bell

Alfred Bell, 84, of South Point, died Friday, May 29, 2020, at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley in Ironton.

A private family service will be conducted by Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point.

Dean Arthur Montroso, 49, of South Point, died Monday, June 1, 2020.

Amber DePriest

Amber Dawn (Delawder) DePriest, 53, of Ironton, died Saturday, May 31, 2020, at her residence.

She is survived by her fiancé, Tony Banks, of Ironton.

There will be a funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Interment will follow at Slab Fork Cemetery in Pedro. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
