Carl Ellis

July 18, 1927– June 18, 2020

Carl Ellis, 92, of Wheelersburg, formerly of Decatur Township, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2020 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Ellis was born July 18, 1927, in Mill Creek Logan, West Virginia; a son to the late Hermon Ellis and Edna (Skaggs) and James Ryan.

 

He is survived by his wife, Geneva (Dean) Ellis, whom he married Aug. 31, 1977.

 

Mr. Ellis was a graduate of Decatur Washington High School and a proud member of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War and completed two tours in the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After retiring from the U.S. Army, Carl and Geneva managed Collins Market.

 

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Mount Olive Community Church.

 

In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by sister, Josephine Smith.

 

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his two special daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Miles Lewis, of Ironton, and Melissa and Jerry Bowling, of Wheelersburg.

 

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, Ohio 45638. Burial will follow in Buckhorn Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Friends may call Monday, 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Leona Ashley

Dec. 27, 1957–June 19, 2020

Leona Carol Ashley, 62, of South Point, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at her home.

 

She was born Dec. 27, 1957 in Huntington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Jess and Henrietta Gee Rood.

 

She was a homemaker.

 

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coy Boyd Ashley; one sister, Susie Thelma Wilburn; and one brother, Orville Gee.

 

Survivors include two children, Jesse Ashley and Coy Slaton, both of South Point.

 

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Friends may call from noon–1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Douglas Bailey Sr.

Douglas H. Bailey Sr., 74, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at home.

 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Bailey.

 

Funeral services will be J.D. Cockrel at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Temple Church, 2601 Lexington Ave, Ashland, Kentucky.

 

He will be interred at the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery Northeast in Ashland, Kentucky.

 

Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake, is assisting the family with arrangements.

James Bruce

James Howard Bruce, 55, of Pedro, died Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at his residence.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
