The Ironton Police Department is investigating a body of a man found in a car on Wednesday evening.

IPD detective Captain Brian Pauley said around 8 p.m. the department got a call about an unresponsive person in a car parked on a lot at S. Second Street and Jefferson Street, near the Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge.

“It was a male deceased in the vehicle,” Pauley said. The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office was contacted and the body was removed from the scene by 11 p.m.

The body was sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office on Thursday morning for an autopsy.

“So, we should know more in the next 24-48 hours about the cause of death,” Pauley said.

He said they are investigating all avenues and they won’t know if foul play was a factor in the death until after the autopsy results are available.

“But there are no public safety concerns at this time,” Pauley said. “After we get the autopsy report, we will know a lot more about the cause of death.”

The man’s identity is not being released at this time, but Pauley said he expected to be able to release the name in the next day or two.
