Clarence E. Fowler, 83, of Ironton, left us peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024.
He was born in Southside, West Virginia to Elmer and Pearl Hudson Fowler, on June 6, 1941.
Clarence attended Gallia County Schools.
He worked for Bob Evans Farms from the age of 16 until his retirement at 66.
Clarence took time to proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Centerville Masonic Lodge.
He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironton.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Abby Fowler; a son, Todd (Robin) Fowler, of Thurman; a daughter, Traci (Joe) McDaniel, of Spring, Texas; two sisters, Freda Marsh, of Pineville, Missouri and Ruth (Bob) Copley, of Thurman; three brothers, Carl (Evelyn) Fowler, of Crown City; Harold (Reda) Fowler, of Gallipolis; David (Charmain) Fowler, of Worthington; four grandchildren, Kimber (Josh) Middleton, of Keedysville, Maryland; Kaitlyn McDaniel, of Cape Coral, Florida; Danielle Fowler, of Cincinnati, OH; and Anthony (Megan) Fowler, of Lancaster; and five great-grandchildren, James, Lydia, Chloe and Simon Fowler and Claire Middleton; a great many nieces and nephews; and a throng of in-laws who loved him like a brother.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen (Wayne) Saunders; and a brother-in-law, Donald Marsh.
In his younger days, Clarence was a runner who liked to compete. He was especially proud of a run from Columbus to Gallipolis to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.
He like golf and loved his golf buddies.
When he moved to rural Lawrence County, he tried his hand at farming, happily baling hay and repairing fences until he got it out of his system.
In retirement, he was a familiar face at the Ironton Farmers Market.
A believer in the healing properties of locally sourced honey, he was the vendor known as the “The Honey Man,” making new friends and thoroughly enjoying himself.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with officiant’s Sally Schisler and Bernie Hensley. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
