ASHLAND, Ky. — For the past six years, the AED Donation Program of King’s Daughters Health Foundation and King’s Daughters Auxiliary has provided more than 150 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to community organizations throughout the UK King’s Daughters service area.

AEDs are medical devices that can deliver an electrical shock to an individual suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, a condition that affects more than 350,000 Americans each year. Only about 10 percent of people who experience a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting survive.

Applications for the 2025 program are being accepted until Friday, Feb. 7.

The groups that get the AED awards will be announced in February.

To be eligible, applicants must be an IRS-designated non-profit organization. Awards are based on community need, with priority given to:

• First responders, especially in rural areas

• Organizations that are open/serve the public 24/7

• Organizations that don’t currently have an AED

• Organizations located in or serving residents of the following counties in Lawrence and Scioto counties in Ohio and Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Floyd, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Lewis and Martin counties in Kentucky.

Last year, seven Lawrence County organizations got AEDs including Rock Hill School District, Elizabeth Township Volunteer Fire Department, Coal Grove Fire Department, Beulah Baptist Church in Proctorville, Aid Volunteer Fire Department and Windsor Volunteer Fire Department.

Successful applicants will be required to attest to the organization’s ability to maintain, use and secure the AED appropriately.

At least one individual representing the organization will be required to undergo AED training or provide documentation of such training.

Organizations wishing to be considered for an AED must complete the application form and submit it, along with an exclusion screening form.

The application and form can be found at www.KingsDaughtersHealth.com/AEDapp.
