Lady Panthers fall on last-second 3-pointer

Aurelia Kirby made only one shot but it was a 3-pointer at the buzzer that gave the Charleston Catholic Lady Irish a 54-51 heartbreaking win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Wednesday in 2 overtimes.

Chesapeake (10-8) led 10-5 after the first quarter as Erin Hicks hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points.

The Lady Irish rallied to within 26-20 at the half.

Abbey Isaacs hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points and Kate Ball hit a trifecta and scored 6.

The Lady Irish came back to tie the game at 32-all in the third quarter and both teams got 8 points in the fourth quarter and it was 40-40.

Each team scored 7 points in the first overtime to see up the heartbreaking finish for the Lady Panthers.

Ball — who was 10 of 14 at the foul line — led the Lady Panthers with 23 points. Isaacs scored 14 and Hicks had 10.

The Lady Irish (9-2) were led by Ali Wilcox with 15 points and Mary Rushworth with 10 points.
