Lady Hornets pull away late from Tolsia

FORT GAY, W.Va. — When the game was on the line, the Coal Grove Lady Hornets lined up.

Leading by 9 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Hornets were clutch at the foul line as they beat the Tolsia Lady Rebels 49-28.

The Lady Hornets pulled away in the fourth quarter as they connected on 10 of 18 free throws.

Kendall Taylor made 6 of 9 from the line, Hailey McKnight 2 of 4 with Emma Lively and Izzy Kitts both 1 of 2. Jenna Anson added 4 points.

Coal Grove took a 16-9 first quarter lead as Taylor hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points, Anson had 4 points and Lively had a 3-pointer.

Jacey Crum had a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and Amber Stevens had 4 points for Tolsia.

The Lady Hornets extended their lead in the second quarter to 26-15 as Anson scored 6 more points.

The Lady Rebels cut the deficit to 33-24 as they converted 5 of 8 from the foul line.

Taylor scored 4 points and Anson 3 to account for all of Coal Grove’s points in the quarter.

Taylor finished with 19 points and Anson had 17 to pace Coal Grove (9-10).

Stevens scored 11 points for Tolsia (2-10).
