It was announced this week that the annual Senior Day at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds will take place on Tuesday, May 14, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Centered in the grounds’ main barn, the event, organized by the Chesapeake-Sybene Senior Center and the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Organization, features food, entertainment, numerous vendors and door prizes.

Darlene Green, of the senior center, who has put together the event for several years, has described it as “a chance for seniors to see what is available to them.”

With no cost for admission, it has been known to draw hundreds to the fairgrounds each year.

Registration for vendors is open now and there is no fee if they do so before Tuesday, March 28.

We encourage businesses and organizations in Lawrence County to look into having a presence at the festivities.

And we ask everyone to please spread the word or possibly offer transportation to any seniors you may know who would enjoy the day at the fairgrounds.
