Virginia “June” Washburn

Virginia “June” Washburn, 84, of Ironton, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Woodland Oaks in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Dec. 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Charles V. and Lennie Wallenfelsz Henthorne. She is survived by her husband, William C. “Bill” Washburn, whom she married Aug. 15, 1948.

Mrs. Washburn was a graduate of Ironton High School and was a former clerk for the City of Ironton Water Works, retiring in 1992 after 24 years of service. She was also a former employee for the Department of Navy immediately following high school and Wilson’s Sporting Goods in Ironton. She was a member of Central Christian Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Kay Washburn of Ironton and Dave Washburn of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Dorothy Wilburn and Charlene Thomas, both of Ironton; a brother, Charles “Chick” Henthorne of Ironton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with ministers Brent Baker and Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in  Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Central Christian Church, 1541 S. Seventh St., Ironton, OH 45638.
