Henry Eugene Roach Sr., 84, of Ironton, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Oakmont Manor Nursing Facility, Flatwoods, Ky., after an extended illness. The Ironton native was born Sept. 12, 1926, the son of the late Jerry E. and Marion Washington Roach. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clarissa Huntley Roach.

Mr. Roach was a graduate of Ironton High School.

He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and a former motor room operator at A.K. Steel Corporation, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Triedstone Baptist Church in Ironton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Roach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eight children, Marion Lowe of Cincinnati, Renee Burnette of Riverside, Calif., Gayla Roach of Chicago, Ill., Henry Jr. and Shelia Roach, Shawn Roach, Joel and Karen Roach, Eric and Lisa Roach and Ryan and Heidi Roach, all of Ironton; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be noon Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850.
