Pointers get pair of soccer games wins

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers seem to save their best work for last.
The Pointers used back-to-back strong second halves as they beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 5-1 and the Lincoln County Panthers 4-1 in soccer.
The Pointers were up 2-0 at the half against Clay, and then outscored Clay 3-1in the second half to get the easy win.
Michael Lien and Gage Stephens scored the first half goals with assists from Brady Slone and Trey Kerns.
Michael Lien, Jesse Lien and Kerns all had second half goals with Kerns and Michael Lien getting assists.
The Pointers (7-2-1) led just 1-0 at the half on a goal by Michael Lien against Lincoln County.
Lincoln then tied the game on a penalty kick by Daniel Walz at the 35:00 mark of the second half.
South Point then took over as Michael Lien, Liam Huff and Kerns all scored goals over a 12-minutes period. Luke Kelley and Kerns had assist.
South Point hosts Wheelersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
