An Ironton man who used a pool stick to rob a gasoline station and a man accused of drunk driving were among those making appearances Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffrey S. Adkins, 43, of 1509 S. Fourth St., was found mentally competent to stand trial, according to two reports from Court Clinic Forensic Center in Portsmouth. Visiting Judge Richard Walton noted the reports and scheduled a pretrial conference for Wednesday.

Adkins is accused of going to the Rich Oil station at Third and Monroe streets and showing a pool stick to rob the establishment. The alleged incident occurred in late June.

Also Wednesday, James S. McClaskey, 41, of 3286 State Route 373, Pedro, pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Walton set an Oct. 10 sentencing date to allow time for a pre-sentence investigation.
