COLUMBUS — Vanderbilt is going Big Ten-free, apparently.

On the same day that the Southeastern Conference school dumped a series with Northwestern in 2013 and ’14, it was revealed that Vanderbilt notified Ohio State that it was also canceling their scheduled game on Aug. 31, 2013, at Ohio Stadium.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement he is working to get a replacement opponent.

The new SEC schedule announced Thursday listed Mississippi at Vanderbilt on Aug. 31. Ohio State received notice of Vanderbilt’s cancellation in a letter received on Tuesday.
