Lady Dragons sluggish but still romp by Meigs, 66-31

POMEROY — The Fairland Lady Dragons had a bad night and won by 35 points.

Imagine what would have happened it they had had a good night.

The Lady Dragons gave a sluggish performance but still rolled past the Meigs Lady Marauders 66-31 onThursday to stay unbeaten.

“We didn’t play well. We weren’t focused. We must have missed at least 20 layups,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Terra Stapleton had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as Fairland improved to 2-0. Kelsey Riley had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals and Mackenzie Riley added 8 points and 11 rebounds.

“Kelsey Riley was one bright spot. She put up a good stat line,” said Buchanan.

Riley and Stapleton scored 6 points each in the first quarter as the Lady Dragons took a 14-3 lead.

Fairland outscored Meigs 21-8 in the second quarter to go on top 35-11 at the half.

Stapleton had 7 more points in the third quarter as Fairland extended its lead to an insurmountable 54-17.

Fairland plays at Chesapeake next Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
