PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons are starting to like this defense stuff.

The Dragons second straight strong defensive effort helped Fairland beat the River Valley Raiders 68-46 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Fairland’s defense limited River Valley to 16 of 44 shooting for 36.4 percent including 2 of 13 from 3-point range.

“Defensively we played well,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed. “Our role players stepped up again. But everyone has played well the last two games. I thought Nathan Campbell did a real nice job defensively.”

Thayer Flynn came off the bench to score 13 points and lead a balanced Fairland offense that saw 10 of the 13 players score.

Chance Short had 9 points and 5 rebounds and Cody Midkiff scored 8 points for the Dragons (4-2, 2-0).

Ethan Dovenbarger and Seann Roberts scored 11 points each for River Valley (1-4, 0-2).

Fairland jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead. Midkiff had 6 points in the second quarter and the lead ballooned to 37-17.

Kyle Raines scored all 6 of his points in the third quarter and Fairland led 56-34.

Each team scored 12 points in the fourth quarter with Flynn getting half of Fairland’s total.
