WELLSTON — When is losing to a good team not a bad thing? When it’s a non-conference game.

Symmes Valley faced a strong North Adams team Saturday in the Lady Rockets Classic and the Lady Vikings fell 64-44 to the Lady Green Devils.

Despite the loss, Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker found a silver lining.

“North Adams is a very good basketball team and we knew that coming in. They are well coached and we did a lot of things to beat ourselves,” said Walker.

“We have to take better care of the basketball and be more consistent on both ends of the floor. Playing tough teams like North Adams will only improve us down the road.”

Kalli Hunt had 17 points and Gracie Waddell 10 to lead the Lady Vikings (4-3).

Emily Fite scored 17 points to lead three North Adams’ players in double figures. Taylor Gast had 12 and Rylee Copas 11.

Six different players scored for the Lady Green Devils as they took a 16-10 lead in the first quarter. Hunt had 8 of the Lady Vikings’ points.

Fite scored 11 points in the second quarter as the Lady Green Devils opened up a 37-21 lead at the half.

Gast had 7 points including a 3-pointer in the third quarter as North Adams extended its lead to 56-29.

Waddell got 7 points in the fourth quarter.
