PROCTORVILLE — Even when they’re bad they’re good.

Fairland didn’t put up their usual dominating numbers, but the Lady Dragons still rolled to a 76-50 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t play our best in some way, but we had some girls who stepped up and played well,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“But give Rock Hill credit. They played hard and they hit the open shot when they were left open.”

Terra Stapleton had 14 points and 3 blocked shots to lead a balanced Fairland offense. Caitlin Stone had 10 points, Kelsey Riley had 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Mackenzie Riley 6 rebounds and 3 steals for the Lady Dragons (6-0, 2-0).

Rock Hill (3-6, 1-2) was 19 of 42 from the field. Brook Knipp led the Redwomen with 17 points. Katie Johnson had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Tommi Butler had 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Stapleton scored 8 points and Stone 6 as Fairland took a 22-1 first quarter lead. Knipp and Johnson combined for 8 of Rock Hill’s points.

The Lady Dragons outscored Rock Hill 20-11 in the second quarter and extended their lead to 42-22 at the half.

“We only had two players in double figures, so to score 76 points is a tribute to all our girls. They all contributed,” said Buchanan.

The Lady Dragons were up 58-35 after three quarters. Chandler Fulks scored 5 points in the fourth quarter for Fairland.

“We played hard. We turned the ball over a little too much, but the effort was there,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

Rock Hill was guilty of 26 turnovers.

Fairland hosts Portsmouth West at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the NAPA Classic.
