Bengals hire Zimmer’s son

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals have hired Adam Zimmer, the son of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, as an assistant defensive backs coach.

Adam Zimmer has been an assistant coach for seven seasons with New Orleans and Kansas City, where he worked with the linebackers. He was with the Saints from 2006-09 and with the Chiefs from 2010-12.

His father has been the Bengals’ defensive coordinator since 2008. He interviewed for head coaching jobs with other teams each of the last two years, but will be back for his sixth year in Cincinnati.

The move could complete the Bengals coaching staff. Running backs coach Jim Anderson retired after the season. Hue Jackson, currently the assistant defensive backs coach, could move into Anderson’s job.
