PEDRO — Making free throws made the River Valley Raiders’ chances of winning a lot better.

River Valley made 20 of 28 free throw attempts to help beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 61-47 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Rock Hill (7-15, 3-7) was just 11 of 20 at the line.

“We didn’t play very well. We had too many turnovers and too many mistakes,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“I thought Knipp and Johnson played well, though.”

Brook Knipp led Rock Hill with 17 points in her final home game and fellow senior Katie Johnson scored 15 points.

Cady Gilmore scored 17 points to lead River Valley (7-14, 4-6). Leia Moore scored 12 points and Shelby Brown 11.

Moore scored 7 points and the Lady Raiders hit four 3-pointers in the quarter — two by Gilmore — to take a 20-11 lead. Knipp scored 9 of Rock Hill’s points.

Tianna Qualls scored all 6 of her points in the second quarter as River Valley extended its lead to 33-20 at the half. Johnson had 7 of Rock Hill’s 9 points in the quarter.

Johnson and Knipp combined for 11 points in the third quarter as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 46-36.

River Valley maintained its lead by converting 11 of 16 from the line in the fourth quarter. Gilmore made all seven of her attempts and Brown scored 7 points.

The Redwomen play Zane Trace at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Jackson in the Division III sectional tournament.
