SOUTH POINT — Brandon Barnes may or may not have 20-20 vision, but Tuesday night he had 20-20 scoring.

Barnes scored 20 points in each half on his way to a 40-point game as the South Point Pointers beat the River Valley Raiders 66-56 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Brandon Boggs added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Pointers (9-12, 4-6).

“Brandon got a lot of good looks and he took advantage of it,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes. “We had some kids hurt and under the weather and we didn’t have our legs.

“Boggs played really well. That’s three straight games he’s had a double double.”

Seann Roberts scored 14 points and Ethan Dovenbarger 13 for River Valley (3-18, 1-9).

Barnes scored 14 points in the first quarter as South Point took a 20-12 lead. He had 6 more in the second quarter and it was 38-29 at the half.

Barnes came out the third quarter and scored 13 points including back-to-back 3-pointers after River Valley had cut the deficit to 6 points.

The Pointers slowed the pace down in the fourth quarter and maintained their lead to get the win.

“We’re playing hard. We lost three games last week in the last 30 seconds,” said coach Barnes.

South Point plays at Boyd County, Ky., on Friday.
