South Point resident named to dean’s list

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University has named South Point resident Kathryn Armstead to the dean’s list for fall 2012. Armstead is a sophomore majoring in undeclared, and previously attended St. Joseph Central High School.

Bellarmine’s dean’s list recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

 

Dulcimer festival on tap

The Rail City Dulcimer Society is hosting its third Annual Dulcimer Festival at Greenbo Lake State Park in Greenup, Ky.

Rail City Dulcimer Society will start the event at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, then Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 will begin with free Dulcimer

Workshops every hour from 9am, 10am and 11am taking a lunch break at noon.

Classes will be given by Steve Justice, Dan Mahoney, Jeri Coburn, Karen McFarlin, Neil Koch, and Dewey Sanderson, Meredith Oesting, Gary and Toni Sager.

Classes will include mountain dulcimer picking, beginning, intermediate and advanced mountain dulcimer, intermediate and advance hammered dulcimer, autoharp and how to build a repertoire.

The entire afternoon will be filled with dulcimer music beginning at 1 p.m. with Open Stage prior to 9 a.m. each day and after the performances end each evening around 8 p.m.

Performers traveling from other regions will be The Big Scioty Dulcimer Club from Prussia Valley, the Morehead Dulcimer Society, the Ashton Ramblers, Dan Mahoney, Dewey Sanderson, Neil Koch and Meredith Oesting.

Events will take place in the Jesse Stuart Lodge Greenbo Lake State Park located at 965 Lodge Road, in Greenup, Ky. This event is free and open to the public.
