Donald Massie

D.E. “Donald” Massie, 77, of South Point, departed this life and went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013. Don was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Prichard, W.Va., the son of Willie and Trudy Massie.

Don was a hardworking individual whose career with the Norfolk and Southern Railroad spanned 55 years. He belonged to the BLE and UTU (lifetime member) unions and he was a 32nd degree Mason. Don loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and gardener. He was a master of machinery, finding nearly nothing he could not fix.

He attended South Point United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by the love of his life, Susan Davidson Massie, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. He leaves four children to cherish his memory, Sharon Massie Johnson and Larry of Huntington. W.Va., Donna Massie of Wayne, Daytona McClain Jarman and Lee of Cayce, S.C., and John McClain of Texas; four grandchildren, Jacob Johnson, Carman Johnson, Tanner Jarman and Rhiannon McClain; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, the Rev. Alan Massie of Lebanon, Va., and John Massie of Wayne, W.Va. Preceding Don in death in addition to his parents, are four brothers, Bill, Freeman, Harold “Boots” and Eugene “Red” Massie; and one sister, Anna Mae Ronk.

By Don’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. Don proudly donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. His wish was that in memory of his life, donations would be made to the South Point United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 202 Third St. E, South Point, OH 45680, to feed the community’s hungry children.

 

 

Diane Spillman

Diane C. Spillman, 66, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Ironton native was born July 13, 1947, the daughter of the late James Kelly and Juanita Haynes Mullins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Spillman, who passed away March 19, 2013.

Mrs. Spillman attended Rock Hill High School and was a former nursing assistant for Jo Lin Health Center in Ironton. She enjoyed dirt track racing and her favorite driver was like a son to her, Dennis Little. She attended the City Mission Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her stepfather who raised her, Billy Mullins.

She is survived by daughter, Mylinda Malone and her special friend, Abby Ross of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Martina and Mike Shope of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Melissa Spillman of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Miranda Spillman of Ironton; grandchildren, Stephanie Abrams of Wurtland, Ky., Marissa Malone, Jennifer Malone, Mark Martin, Jerry Goody III, Billy Goody, Brandon Spillman, Jackie Spillman, Tomi Reigh Spillman, Aaron Spillman, Dakota Spillman and Michael Shope, all of Ironton; two great grandchildren, Natalie Abrams and Erin Abrams both of Wurtland, Ky.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie and Clarice Kelly of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Spillman Cemetery and visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Dorothy Waugh

Dorothy G. Waugh, 60, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ft. Knox, Ky., native was born Nov. 26, 1952, the daughter of the late Ezra and Anneliese Missler Lucas.

Mrs. Waugh was a graduate of Russell High School. She enjoyed bowling, painting and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Loy.

She is survived by four sons, Ezra Lucas of Williamsburg, Va., Chris Lee Waugh of Coal Grove, Robert Dale Waugh of Wheelersburg, and Hobert Gene Waugh II of Coal Grove;

a brother, Roy E. Lucas of Valparaiso, Ind.; three grandchildren, and a niece, Kimberly Lucas of Coal Grove.

Belinda Coleman

Belinda Blanchard White Coleman, 42, of South Point, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at home. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
