HAMLIN, W.Va. — The South Point Pointers aren’t picky. They’ll take whatever you want to give them.

With Lincoln County trying to take the passing game away, the Pointers turned to their running game and beat the Panthers 42-22 Friday.

“We were adapting to what they were giving us. Last week we threw the ball more and this week we ran the ball,” said Pointers’ coach Rick Marcello.

The Pointers had 20 carries for 248 yards rushing. White carried 11 times for 146 yards and three touchdowns while James Leonard ran four times for 91 yards and a score.

Quarterback Gage Townson was 6 of 12 passing for 137 yards to give the Pointers 385 total yards.

Isaih Jones caught three passes for 98 yards and Trent Allen had one catch for 39 yards.

The Pointers are 4-0, but this week they didn’t have to come from behind last in the game in order to win.

“We were used to being the cardiac kids. We made things a little easier tonight,” said Marcello.

South Point used its special teams to take the lead. Jones returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown less than three minutes into the game and South Point led 7-0. Alex Whitt added the conversion kick.

White broke free on a 44-yard scoring run and the lead was 14-0 following Jordan Overstreet’s extra point.

Lincoln County (0-4) answered to get within 14-7 on a 1-yard run by Grant Bates.

But White answered with a 36-yard touchdown run with 2:54 left in the half and it was 21-7.

The Pointers struck quickly with just 35 seconds left in the half on an 80-yard pass play from Townson to Jones.

Leonard shook loose for a 75-yard scoring run with 2:21 left in the third quarter and the lead went to 35-8.

South Point sealed the win on a 46-yard TD run by White with 11:49 to play.

Lincoln County narrowed the final gap to 42-22 on a 1-yard scoring run by Zack McGee with 9:42 left and a 64-yard scamper by Chaz Wiley with 2:28 left.
