COAL GROVE — Jacy Jones made the kick and Leslie Mulkey made the hit.

With the score tied in overtime, Jones drove to the basket and kicked a pass out to Mulkey who hit the go-ahead shot.

River Valley got off a halfcourt shot that fell short as the buzzer sounded and the Coal Grove Lady Hornets came away with a 47-45 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Lady Raiders on Thursday.

Jones had 20 points and six assists to lead the Lady Hornets (5-10, 2-3). Leah Crum added 11 points.

Shelby Brown scored 15 points and Leia Moore 13 to pace River Valley (5-8, 2-4).

“We got out-rebounded in the first half, but we did a better job in the second half,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach. “(Summer) Willis did a good job on the boards and Jones made a lot of big plays for us.”

Moore scored seven points in the first quarter to offset four points by Willis as the Lady Raiders took an 11-10 lead.

But Brittany Webb, Crum and Jones each hit 3-pointers in the second quarter as Coal Grove took a 24-20 halftime lead. Brown had five points in the quarter.

Brown and Moore scored four points each in the third quarter as River Valley rallied to take a 37-33 lead. Jones had all nine of Coal Grove’s points in the quarter.

Jones and Crum had triples in the fourth quarter and the defense held River Valley to just four points as Coal Grove tied the game to force the overtime.

Jones forced three turnovers in overtime and gave the Lady Hornets some extra sets on offense.

Coal Grove plays at Rock Hill next Thursday in a league game.
