PROCTORVILLE — This is the kind of habit the Fairland Lady Dragons hope they never kick.

The Lady Dragons beat the South Point Lady Pointers 70-41 Thursday to capture their third straight Ohio Valley Conference championship.

Fairland coach Jon Buchanan said winning the title never gets old.

“We always talk about that. It’s a big deal. I don’t care where you’re going or whatever you’re doing, this group of kids are going to be known as winners. They’ve won three straight titles and that’s never been done in school history,” said Buchanan.

Fairland is 15-3 on the season and 8-0 in the conference. Second-place South Point is now 17-4 and 8-2 in the league.

The Lady Dragons now have 71 wins over the past four seasons.

“This group has a chance to average 20 wins a season. That’s quite an accomplishment,” said Buchanan.

Terra Stapleton scored 16 points to lead the Lady Dragons. Chandler Fulks had 15 points — all in the first half — including four 3-point goals and Caitlin Stone scored 12 points.

Brooklyn Badgett and Abbey Winkler scored 11 points each to lead South Point.

Fulks hit three triples in the first quarter to offset seven points by Aundrea Bradburn as Fairland took a 20-10 first quarter lead.

Stapleton scored eight points and Stone dropped in a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Lady Dragons went on a 10—0 run to end the half and pulled away to a 44-20 halftime cushion.

“South Point hung around and hung around, but we put together a nice run at the end of the second quarter and that gave us a separation,” said Buchanan.

Fairland outscored South Point 14-5 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 58-25.

Winkler had seven of her points in the fourth quarter as South Point outscored Fairland 16-12.
