CHESAPEAKE — The South Point Pointers were a big hit. In fact, they were a hit 10 times.

The Pointers banged out 10 hits as they beat the Chesapeake Panthers 9-2 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“They just hit the ball and we haven’t hit all year,” said Chesapeake coach Justin Davis.

Alex Whitt, Patrick Jones and Logan Wade all went 2-4 to lead the Pointers.

Whitt also got the complete game win. He gave up four hits, struck out seven and walked three.

Chesapeake (2-6, 0-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Casey McComas beat out an infield hit, was sacrificed to second, stole third base and scored on a passed ball.

South Point took the lead for good with two runs in the third.

Christian Prichard singled, Trey Kearns reached on an error and Whitt was safe on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Brandon Boggs then doubled home two runs.

The lead went to 5-1 in the fifth.

Jones tripled and Wade doubled him home. Brandon Layne walked, Tyler Branch doubled to score Wade and Prichard squeezed home Branch.

Two more runs scored in the fifth.

Whitt and Boggs singled, Chris Woodard hit into a fielder’s choice and Jones was safe on an error as two runs scored.

South Point got a run in the sixth when Branch was hit by a pitch, moved up on a sacrifice by Prichard and scored on Whitt’s base hit.

Each team got a run in the seventh.

Jones tripled and Wade singled for the Pointers’ run.

Kobe McWhorter and Kolton Webb singled and Austin Stone was safe on an error in the Panthers half of the inning.
