Pointers down Redmen in OVC

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers stayed the course.

The Pointers remained atop the Ohio Valley Conference with a 10-4 win over the Rock Hill Redmen Wednesday.

Alex Whitt pitched 6.2 strong innings and the offense produce 11 hits including five doubles en route to the win.

South Point took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Patrick Jones doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on a balk.

The lead went to 3-0 in the third inning.

Whitt doubled, Brandon Boggs walked and Whitt went to third on a passed ball. Chris Woodard singled to load the bases and Whitt scored on a passed ball. Logan Wade singled to drive in the second run.

Rock Hill rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth.

Aaron Dalton singled and stole second, Jonah Cox singled and Jonathan Joseph and Jordan Hairston each singled in a run. A balk moved the runners up and Levi Wilds followed with a two-run single.

But the Pointers regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brandon Layne singled and scored on a hit by Christian Pritchard. Whitt then doubled in the second run.

The Pointers blew the game open with five runs in the sixth.

Pritchard doubled and Whitt singled for a run. Boggs was safe on an error, Woodard walked and Jones hit a sacrifice fly.

Whitt was 3-4 with two RBIs, Wade 2-4 and two RBIs and Pritchard 2-3 wth an RBI as the Pointers got 11 hits.

Dalton was 2-3 for the Redmen.
