Maurice Sexton

Maurice Dewey Sexton, 89, of South Point, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, at his residence. The Morgan County, Ky., native was born May 19, 1924, the son of the late Stephen Buford and Mary Magdalene Ratliff Sexton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Pauline Graham Sexton.

Mr. Sexton attended school in Forestdale, was a coal miner for McSweeney and was of the Baptist faith. He also worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps on the West Coast, loved farming, pets, raising cattle and working on automobiles.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Sexton; seven brothers, Estell Otis Sexton, Tom Sexton, Leonard Sexton, Raymond Sexton, Lloyd T. Sexton, Hurshal Sexton, and Beacher Campbell; five sisters, Sephrona B. Sexton, Eddythe M. Sexton, Cora Sexton, Bessie Sexton and Ella M. Sexton

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Pauline and James Stepro, of Brandon, Miss.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice Lou and Lena Sexton, of Virginia Beach, Va., Larry and Gina Sexton, of Kitts Hill, and Daniel and Jamie Sexton, of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Burlington Greenlawn Cemetery. Kristi Brown

Kristi Ann (Bellamy) Brown, 52, died on Monday, May 19, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born in Lawrence County on Oct. 17, 1961, the daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn M. Compliment Beals Bellamy. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a homemaker and a graduate of Lawrence County Vocational School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by one infant son, Allen Brown; and one brother, Barry Beals. Survivors include her husband, Tony Brown, of Coal Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly (Josh) Woodard, of Coal Grove; and two grandchildren, Jason (Scotty) Woodard and Natalie Woodard, of Coal Grove. In keeping with her wishes a funeral Mass will be at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Mabel Abrams

Mabel Marie Abrams, 79, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2014, at a local health care facility. The Greenup, Ky., native was born Nov. 14, 1934.

Ms. Abrams attended Greenup County (Ky.) Schools and was a former employee of the Marting Hotel. She was a former Senior Citizen of the Year and attended the Greater Faith Apostolic Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Harris; a sister, Florencine McCarty; and a brother, Louis Brown.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Prince, of Urbana, Ill.; daughter, Linda Prince, of Corpus Christi, Texas; son, Donald Prince, of Coal Grove; son, Bill Abrams, of Coal Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and James Harris of Coal Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Danny Conley, of Coal Grove; son and daughter-in-law, David S. and Ashley Abrams, of Coal Grove; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Mary Jane Brown, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; son-in-law, Keith Harris, of Coal Grove; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor J.J. Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery and visitation will be noon until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Lee Ann Boyd

Lee Ann Kingery Boyd, 57, of Kitts Hill, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, at her residence. The Ironton native was born Feb. 4, 1957, the daughter of Joyce Webb Kingery, of Kitts Hill, and the late Gary Kingery.

Lee Ann was a 1975 graduate of Rock Hill High School. She was a full-time mother, grandmother and a former dental assistant for several local offices. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Ironton, enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by a son, Drew Kingery Boyd, who passed away January 1984.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Camron Boyd and his wife, Paige, of Douglas, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Alex Boyd Howell and her husband, Harper, of Russell, Ky.; a sister and brother-in-law, Keely Kingery Hatfield and her husband, James, of Ironton; two grandsons, Carter Boyd, of Douglas, Ga., and Quinnton Howell, of Russell, Ky.; and two nephews, Connor and Liam Hatfield, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church with minister Phil Lemaster officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Carol O’Brien

Carol Jean O’Brien, 75, of South Point, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

 

 

Mary Whitt

Mary Magdalene Beach Whitt, 90, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, May 17, 2014, at home. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Preston Family Funeral Home with brother Steve Fraley.
