Reducing speed is right call

The county engineer is making the right call seeking a speed limit reduction on several roads throughout Lawrence County.

In many cases, some county and township roads have no speed limit sign displayed. This creates an environment in which residents have to wonder if anything will ever be done or if an accident will be what it takes to cause a change.

It is important, however, for the Ohio Department of Transportation to take these recommendations from the county engineer and reduce the speed limits.

Having these changes can be an essential component to ensuring those throughout the county do not have to constantly worry about the speeds motorists drive past their homes.

Ultimately, will a reduction in the speed limits on those roads cause motorists not to speed? Only time will tell.

But with the help of law enforcement monitoring these problem areas, there is no reason the reductions can’t be successful.

But the reductions are the proper choice for public safety while providing law enforcement a resource.

This also gives residents and motorists peace of mind that safety is a top priority.
