ROCKSPRINGS — The Fairland Dragons might be short on experience, but not on players.

The Dragons used 10 players as they opened the season with a 67-53 win Tuesday over the Meigs Marauders.

“We played a lot of people and we played pretty well most of the time,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed.

“We’re really young and we showed signs of that at times. We got the lead to 20 points and then let them back in the game. We’re going to go through growing pains.”

Chance Short scored 18 points to lead the Dragons. Isaiah Howell added 11 points while Nathan Campbell had a solid all-around game with 9 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Fairland’s Luke Thomas added 9 points and Kollin Van Horn had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Tyler Campbell also had 5 rebounds.

Meigs (0-2) was led by Luke Musser with 17 points and Isaiah English added 13 points.

After Meigs took a 14-11 first quarter lead, Short scored 7 points in the second quarter as Fairland erupted for 24 points and took a 35-24 lead at the half.

Howell scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Dragons extended their lead to 52-39.

Meigs tried to make a run in the fourth quarter, but two key baskets by Van Horn kept the Dragons in front.

Fairland hosts Cabell Midland on Saturday in the Big E Classic.
