FRANKLIN FURANCE — Evidently, quit is a four-letter word the Green Bobcats aren’t allowed to say.

Despite falling behind early, the Green Bobcats came off the mat as the rallied to beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 9-4 on Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The performance impressed coach Dan McDavid as the Bobcats won their season opener.

“We got down three runs and we didn’t hang our heads. I was proud of the fight in our team,” said McDavid.

“We’ve been waiting to play so we didn’t know what to expect. We responded to adversity well.”

Josh Karshner was 2-4 with three runs batted in, Mark Allen was 2-3, Tyler Johnson 1-2 with an RBI, Tyler Darnell 1-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Hunter Lewis had an RBI and Andy Chavaeria walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run.

“We got good production up and down the lineup,” said McDavid.

Karshner and Trevor Carver combined on a seven-hitter with Carver getting the win.

Notre Dame got a run in the first inning but Green tied the game in the second when Josh Clark reached on a two-base error, stole third and scored on as the throw got past the third baseman.

The Titans came back to score three runs in the top of the third, but Green answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning.

Lewis, Chavaeria and Ben Vance walked to load the bases. Darnell walked to force in a run, Karshner signled in two runs and Carver grounded out as a run scored.

Allen singled and Clark and Johnson walked to force in a run. Lewis walked to drive in another run and Chavaeria hit a sacrifice fly to cap the rally.

The Bobcats’ final run scored in the sixth when Darnell singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Karshner.
