CHESAPEAKE — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers must have been watching the Power Rangers.

Ironton powered up as Breanna Klaiber and Ariel Whitt slammed home runs as the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 9-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.

“Klaiber had a great game all-around. She went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and then was part of two double plays,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“Ariel Whitt played well both at bat and in the field as well. She was 3-for-4 and part of the two double plays and hit her first home run. She is a gamer. I am so glad to see her efforts in the cage paying off for her.”

Kylee Metzger struck out eight, walked two and gave up five hits to get the win.

“Metzger had another strong outing on the mound. She is working her spots very well,” said Fields. “I am proud of this team. They all are working hard to be better ballplayers. It is exciting to see it come together.”

Ironton got a run in the second when Aley Carmon singled, Metzger walked and Kylie Barcus singled.

The lead went to 3-0 in the third inning with two outs.

Klaiber doubled, Carmon walked, Metzger doubled and Whitt singled.

Ironton put together a four-run rally in the fifth.

Klaiber led off with a home run, Carmon was hit by a pitch, Metzger reached on an error and Whitt singled. Barcus walked and Rylie Vaughn hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored.

The final two runs scored in the sixth when Klaiber singled and Whitt belted a two-run homer.

Chesapeake (4-4) got its run in the fifth when Brooke Webb walked, stole second and third, and score on Kelsey Huff’s ground out.
