PEDRO — In a tune-up for the league meet, South Point’s engine was humming.

The South Point Pointers warmed up for this Saturday’s Ohio Valley Conference meet by winning the Rock Hill Invitational last Friday.

South Point had 115.5 points with runner-up Jackson getting 99.5 points.

Coal Grove was next with 95 followed by Chesapeake with 93.5, Rock Hill 79.5, Fairland 78, Portsmouth 70 and Ironton 28.5.

The Pointers used their depth to get the win. South Point had only two first place finishes as Tanner Mathes won the 800 meters and Brady Sloan claimed the high jump.

Fairland’s Zach McKinney was the only two-event winner as he finished first in the shot put and the discus.

In the girls’ meet, Jackson won the meet with 123.5 points with Fairland second at 111 and Portsmouth third with 98 points.

Next was Coal Grove with 78 points followed by Chesapeake with 73, Rock Hill 67.5, South Point 49 and Ironton 43.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ Lexie Wise enjoyed an impressive day. She won the 300-meter hurdles, was on the winning 4×100-meter relays, was second in the high jump and was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The OVC meet begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coal Grove.
