COAL GROVE — Finishing first helped the Fairland Lady Dragons finish first.

The Lady Dragons had six first-place finishes as they won the Ohio Valley Conference track and field championship on Saturday.

Fairland had 143.5 points with host Coal Grove runners-up with 120 points. Portsmouth was third with 78 points followed by last year’s champion Chesapeake with 61, Rock Hill 42.5, Ironton 39 and South Point 37.

Shanan Ashton led the way with two wins as she placed first in the 1600-meter run at 5:49.77 and 3200 at 13:32.79.

Also winning for Fairland were Breanna Brewer in the shot put at 34-4.25, Ciarra Brown the 100-meter hurdles at 17.79 seconds, the 4×400 relay team of Lexi Eldridge, Emmy Fulks, Jessica Price and Brown with a 4:31.13 time, and the 4×800 quartet of Hannah Wilson, Kaylan Hager, Fulks and Ashton at 11:11.05.

Ironton’s Alexis Wise had a strong all-around performance. She won the 300-meter hurdles with a 52.66 clocking. She also was third in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles and joined Tori Starr, Peyton Arden and Autumn Shope to take second in the 4×100.

Chesapeake’s Atiya Spaulding was impressive as well. She won the high jump at 5-2 and the long jump at 15-4. She also was second in the 100 and 200 dashes.

Coal Grove’s Leslie Mulkey ran a 2:30.09 to win the 800 and was part of two winning relay teams.

Coal Grove won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. The 4×100 team was comprised of Chelsie Curry, Emily Compliment, Jacy Jones and Mulkey while Ali Waller teamed with Compliment, Mulkey and Curry in the 4×200.

Rock Hill’s Maddie Malone cleared 9-feet to win the pole vault.

Portsmouth’s Lynsey Shipley won three events as she took first in the 100, 200 and 400 dashes.
