PORTSMOUTH — The St. Joseph Flyers were their own worst enemy.

The Flyers were guilty of two own goals that provided the difference as they lost 4-2 to the Portsmouth Clay Panthers on Tuesday in a soccer game.

St. Joseph (4-6-3) took a 2-1 lead in the first half.

Peyton Adkins scored an unassisted goal to put the Flyers up 1-0, but an own goal enabled Clay to tie the game.

Adkins then scored with an assist from Isaac Whaley and the Flyers led 2-1 at the half.

Clay tied the game at 2-2 on an unassisted goal by Jordan Collier and then another own goal made it 3-2.

The Panthers final goal was an unassisted kick by Tyler Knittle.

Goalie Joey Bush had 7 saves for the Flyers. Clay’s Anthony Williams had 4 saves.

St. Joseph plays Piketon at Shawnee State on Saturday.
